TheMillennium Africa Global Initiative 500 Youth two months free Skills Acquisition Program was a deliberate effort to empower the capacity of Youth in a sustainable manner to boost and upgrade the state economy.

We all know In the face of the challenges that graduates and young Nigerians encounter to get a job, or be economically independent, most of us will agree that having a relevant vocational skill present the most practical path for youths to be gainfully employed and thus a way to reduce unemployment among young Nigerians. We have seen how this is working in developed countries like Germany which has the lowest youth unemployment rate in Europe.

As far as July 2004, the Cologne Institute for Business Research published a study which finds that Germany’s ‘dual system’ of vocational training has proved to be an effective tool in reducing youth unemployment. Today, Germany’s youth unemployment rate is about 6.7% compared to the UK 12% and Spain 38%. We believe that if vocational training could reduce unemployment elsewhere, it would do the same here in Nigeria.

This is why we are championing vocational education programmes that are designed to equip youth beneficiaries with lifelong skills that greatly enhances employment and income earning opportunities especially among young people from challenging Backgrounds.

We are particularly investing in equipping as many Nigerian youths as we can, with high demand tech and digital media skills that promises steady opportunities and meaningful wages.

The bigger vision is to create vocational skills training centres where skilled youth artisans and craftsmen, will teach other youths and equip them with relevant skillsets that are in demand, so that they could be gainfully employed and financially independent.

We believe this vision is realizable and we have set our heart to realizing it.
